Letter From the Race Director

Once again we are excited to organize another beautiful NW Marathon. The unique courses are not only scenic and flat, but also historic. Vancouver USA, the original Vancouver, sits on the largest river in the west coast. The pioneers originally thought that it connected from the west to the east, but we now know this is not true. VUM now connects people from the west coast and east coast, plus many states in between.

Last year we had over 3,000 participants: individuals representing over 40 different states and 6 countries around the world. Vancouver USA has been overlooked in the past years, but with new trails, businesses and the support of the community, we are now on the map of marathons as THE upcoming city!

While you stay in our city, visit local historic sites, wineries, breweries, shops and businesses. Businesses are supporting the marathon, as they will be offering specials deals and discounts: our way to say THANK YOU for visiting Vancouver USA!

Recently I joined the Vancouver Downtown Association Board of Directors and was asked to be a part of the new Sports Commissions, founded by Vancouver Tourism Office. The city believes in sports tourism with events like the Vancouver USA Marathon to accentuate economic growth and job creation. This City is important to me and to all community members. You will be happy to know that Energy Events, a local business, owns the Vancouver USA Marathon where we hire locally, support local businesses, and encourages others to do the same.

Here are some of the new things we are bringing to the marathon weekend:

Live Music all Weekend Long starting Friday in Ester Short Park
5 Local & National Breweries supporting the event: 10 Barell, Widmer, Ninkasi, Michloub Ultra & Shock Top
“Kick off your Business Shoes” is back – Fit Right Sports & Fitness Show with VDA
NEW Finisher's Medal (each year a different style, collect them all!)
Staggering of the Starts – Under 8 Min / 8:01 to 12:00 / 12:01 to Walkers
More Police Support in certain areas – thanks Vancouver PD & City of Vancouver
We still have 13 Energetic Aids Station for the Full Marathon & 7 for the Half Marathon
Farmers Market is Open all weekend long next to Esther Short Park
This is not just a running/walking event - it is an COMMUNITY EVENT! Bring your Family & Friends
